The circular rectangle, commonly referred to as the ‘TV case’, clearly cuts off from classic round models and fits well into the design of the 1970s.

This watch stands out with a dark brown dial, which fits well with the geometric case and gives the watch a more subdued, slightly elegant character. The large day-date window at 3 o'clock remains legible and highlights the usability of the model.

The most powerful element in this watch is the combination of a strongly scratched TV case with a deep, dark brown color of the dial. The watch looks distinctly vintage on the hand, but it's not too loud.

Assessment of condition

The watch is preserved in good condition. The envelope shows age marks, fine scratches and abrasions resulting from normal use. The dark-brown dial remains legible, and the index and calendar layout still looks good visually. Glass and external elements also bear typical traces of operation.

Production of such models can be indicatively placed in the 1970s. The 20th century, and without the documentation of a particular watch I do not give an exact year.

Raketa 2628.H movement

Raketa 2628.H, a mechanical caliber with manual tension, and the function of the day of the week and date, works in the watch. This is a design characteristic of the more sophisticated Raketa models from this period. The movement is classic in construction and well known to people dealing with Soviet watches. As with most vintage movements, its actual condition today depends primarily on service history, cleaning and lubrication.

The service history of this watch is not confirmed, so with regular wearing it is worth considering the review as a natural element of the use of the vintage watch.

Recommendations

Raketa TV case looks good on stripes that balance the geometric shape of the case. In this watch, the present brown leather strap visible in the first photo is very good – it conquers the shade of the dial and creates a coherent, warm combination with it.

Brown leather fits better here than a steel bracelet, if the aim is a more classic and calm look. The watch works well in vintage, casual and smart casual style.

Manufacturer – Raketa

Raketa was one of the most recognizable watches brands in the USSR, produced by Petrodvorets Watch Factory near Leningrad, present-day St. Petersburg. The history of the plant dates back to the 18th century, while the production of watches began in the post-war period. The name Raketa was introduced in the early 1960s, during the period of Soviet successes of the space program.

The factory produced both simple daily watches and more distinctive designs with unusual dials, calendars or cases. Especially the models from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s are today associated with the expressive design of the Soviet watch industry.

Mark Raket survived the dissolution of the USSR and functions also contemporaryly, while the greatest interest of collectors continues to attract mechanical models produced during the Soviet period.

Specifications

Brand

Raketa

Model

TV case

Movement

Raketa
